LICKING COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSIONFAIR HOUSING PROGRAM
The fair housing office provides three basic services to the community:
Housing Discrimination Investigation
Complaints of housing discrimination based on a person's race, color, religion, national origin, familial status, handicap, or sex are received from clients. Resolving these complaints may consist of investigating, testing, conciliating, or possibly referring to a higher legal resource for resolution.
Tenant/Landlord Counseling
Complaints are taken and logged daily regarding numerous tenant landlord issues, such as evictions, security deposits, or other disputes. Mediating between the landlord and tenant is sometimes necessary in order to clarify situations. Clients are given informational material and brochures on the laws, and other means to resolve their complaints.
Education / Information
The education/information function of the Fair Housing Program is the major tool used to increase public awareness of the laws and citizens' rights. This function is provided through numerous activities such as newspaper articles, public seminars, continuing education programs, brochures, speaking engagements, information booths at community fairs, home information demonstrations, and any other means that reach the public.
Information is also provided to the community regarding government housing, available rental housing, Section 8 guidelines, and any other housing related resources that will assist clients in obtaining the housing of their choice.
