Questions and Answers for South Licking Watershed Conservancy District (SLWCD) Flood Prevention Project
Questions
Answers
- A1 – Yes, plantings will be included at designated
places along the maintenance berm of the bypass channel and along the
downstream toe (not on the dam itself) of the earthen dam.
- A2 – No, the hydraulic model includes the existing U.S.
Rt. 40 bridge. This bridge was constructed in 1997 and is numbered
LIC-40-1235 with a 127 ft. span.
- A3 – We do not presently plan to re-run the model
specifically for an increase of 20 percent over the 100-year event. However,
the dam is designed to continue to function with storms larger than the
100-year event. In other words, for storms greater than the 100-year event
the flow is designed to overtop the dam in ramp spillways to safely pass the
additional flow. Thus, if upstream development should increase flows, this
overtopping threshold would occur somewhat sooner than the 100-year event.
- A4 – Presently, there is no plan to take over the
maintenance of Center Ditch. In other words, it would remain with the
county.
- A5 – The final decision rests with the Conservancy
Court. The appraisal is planned to be completed in late January. If
approved, construction could begin summer of 2007.
- A6 – Flooding is reduced by 1.6 ft. for the 1.25-year
flood, 2.1 ft. for the 2 and 3-year floods, 1.8 ft. for the 5-year flood and
1.9 ft. for the 10-year through 100-year floods.
- A7 – The property valuation could change but any
changes would be up to the county auditor.
- A8 – The affected landowner would have to file a claim
with the South Licking Watershed Conservancy District.
