The Ohio Veterans Homes are state facilities committed to a second century of quality assisted living and nursing home care for eligible veterans who have been citizens of the State of Ohio for five consecutive years; served on active duty during a time of war or armed conflict or were the recipient of the Purple Heart, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, or Southwest Asia Service Medal. This care is provided regardless of age, race, disability, creed, sex or ability to pay.
Resident placement in one of two levels is determined by the degree of medical, nursing and rehabilitative care required. Based on application information and physical examination, the level of care is determined by the facility medical director prior to admission and is reassessed whenever necessary throughout the veteran's stay. The Secrest-Giffin nursing home offers a wide range of health care programs to help veterans achieve their maximum level of functioning. The nursing home goal is to restore health when possible, maximize abilities through rehabilitative therapy and provide opportunities for self-determination and independence.
Veterans Hall is the new assisted living domiciliary for veterans who are more self-reliant, independent and physically active. In this environment, residents are required to maintain personal hygiene and living space and to participate in health care services. Veterans have the opportunity to take part in purposeful activities, including those that interact with the outside community.
Application forms may be obtained from the Licking County Veterans' Service Office or by calling 1-800-572-7934.
