Position Description:

Essential Duties:

  • Administer Battelle Developmental Inventory II to determine a child’s eligibility for services;
  • Provide on-going home based services to address the strengths and developmental needs of children who have a developmental delay or a medical condition that puts them at risk of developing a delay;
  • Function as a Primary Service Provider; Participate in the initial development and subsequent reviews of the Individualized Family Services Plan and/or the Early Childhood Family Services Plan; assist families in writing functional outcomes; focus intervention services to meet parents’ priorities, needs and interests;
  • Participate in the Routines Based interview used for family assessment;
  • Use evidence-based practices including parent coaching to focus intervention on the caregiver’s ability to promote the child’s participation in activities that are based on the child’s interests and daily routines;
  • Document all family and professional contacts and service delivery including progress on the IFSP outcomes.
Brief Description:

The Developmental Specialist provides services to caregivers of infants and toddlers birth through age five who have a developmental delay or a medical diagnosis that puts them at risk for developing a delay. Using evidence-based practices including parent coaching, the Specialist focuses intervention on the caregiver’s ability to discover learning opportunities that will increase the child’s participation and enjoyment in daily routines and ultimately promote the child’s development.

Job Prerequisites:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, health, social or behavioral sciences, social services, human services, or related academic field; OR Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field and 2 years PAID full time work with children birth through age 5 with disabilities OR valid license in counseling, early childhood education, special ed., hearing, speech, vision intervention, nursing, physical or occupational therapy, social work, or psychiatry.
  • Eligibility for Early Intervention Certification through the Ohio Dept. of Developmental Disabilities.
  • Acceptable driver’s abstract to meet the county’s criteria for insurability.
  • Extensive knowledge of early childhood development for children birth through age five.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information. Ability to coach caregivers.
  • Knowledge of parent coaching strategies and adult learning preferences.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. iPad use is a plus.
