Position Description:

Duties:        

Expectations

  • Continually monitor 5 year strategic plan
  • Market park district using consistent news releases, website updates, and presentations to community leaders, municipal partners, non profits, business and residents
  • Solicit feedback from residents using advisory committees and levy committee
  • Actively participate in the community via social networking, Rotary, Chambers of Commerce
  • In coordination with the Park Board, Director plans, develops, and implements the District's 5 year plan
  • Develops annual operating and capital budgets
  • Serves as Financial Officer
  • Develops, manages, and evaluates staffing needs
  • Ensures Park District is compliant with provisions of the Ohio Revised Code
  • Reaches out and develops relationships with the public to foster and encourage Park District support
  • Serves, or designates an agent to serve, as secretary to the Board
  • Develops, recommends, and implements new and revised policies, procedures, and job descriptions
  • Manages, through staff, park operations, park conditions, and programs
  • Oversees the development and implementation of Park District programs and activities
  • Prepares and distributes accurate and timely financial reports to the Board
  • Prepares and distributes accurate meeting minutes and meeting agendas prior to Board meetings
  • Meets annual goals for projects set forth in the Strategic Plan in a timely manner
  • Coordinates preparation of the next Strategic Plan
  • Attends and/or conducts meetings with public officials, private industry and the general public
  • Makes presentations on programs and Park District status
  • Oversees the development and coordination of appropriate marketing strategies
  • Prepares reports and presentations to the Park Board
  • Oversees and maintains any and all records necessary to the operation of the District in accordance
    with the record retentions policy
  • Evaluates existing programing and volunteer efforts for impact and efficiency
  • Oversees financial reports and documents as may be necessary for the orderly and effective

  • Meets regularly with staff to evaluate direction and share information/expectations 
  • Oversees and ensures work assignments are completed
  • Provides training and evaluates employee performance
  • Receives and resolves employee issues and takes corrective action, as necessary, according to
    established guidelines
  • Approves time sheets, leaves of absence, and expense reports
  • In coordination with the Park Board interviews and hires candidates for employment
  • Conducts regular inspection of all properties and facilities
  • Ensures compliance with established safety standards for parks, public open spaces, facilities, work places, vehicles, and equipment
  • Conducts regular inspections of multi-use trails and bridges
  • Schedules needed maintenance and coordinates repairs
  • Evaluates and proposes best management practices for natural areas and plant communities
  • Other duties as directed by the Licking Park District Board of Commissioners
Brief Description:
  • The Director is the head administrator of the Park District who oversees the overall operations of the Park District and the implementation of long-term stratagic plan.

Job Prerequisites:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in Natural Resources, Park/Recreation Administration or a closely related field; and a minimum of five (5) years related experience with a minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Additional Qualifications (Agency/Dept. Qualifications):

Preference given to director or deputy director experience of parks, outdoor programs or natural resource management. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Compensation:

Salary:           $80,000 - $100,000, depending on qualifications

The Licking Park District develops and maintains parks and trails throughout Licking county, Ohio for the well being of its residents.

The Licking Park District manages 1619 acres and 45 miles of paved bike paths with the help of a 6 member staff and over 100 volunteers.

Since 2012 the Licking Park district has developed programs where the participation reached over 8,500 in 2016.

A 5-year tax levy was just renewed with overwhelming support from the community.
