Position Description:

Duties:    Screens all persons who wish to enter the Courthouse for weapons and other harmful objects, utilizing the magnetometer, hand-held metal detector, and x-ray machine.

Maintain communications with court bailiffs and other security/law enforcement personnel regarding security-related issues and emergencies.

Takes steps to control emergency situations at the entrance level, including summoning proper assistance.

Directs the flow of human traffic entering and exiting the building in a courteous but cautious manner, paying special attention to abnormal behaviors and conducts searches of those entering when suspicion warrants such action.

Prepares appropriate reports of disturbances and accidents.

Conducts searches of the building and grounds as part of daily security checks and patrols the building and grounds as necessary when full staffing exists at entrance.

When staffing thresholds are met and the need arises, may provide minimal bailiff duties and other court security assistance for both the general and juvenile-probate divisions of the Common Pleas Court.

May assist in short-term after-hour supervision and transport of prisoners to a secured facility.

Other duties as assigned.

Brief Description:

Seeking an individual to assist in security screening of persons entering the Courthouse. Position responsibilities include utilizing metal detecting and x-ray equipment to search persons and providing general security to ensure the safety of court staff and the general public. Must be 21 years of age. High School Diploma and current OPOTA firearms certification required.

Job Prerequisites:

Minimum Qualifications:     Qualified individuals must be 21 years of age and shall possess a high school diploma and have current Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy certification, including up-to-date firearms certification. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a criminal justice related field preferred. Experience with court and/or other physical security beneficial. Must also have physical capabilities to search and/or detain individuals when necessary.
