FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – December 2, 2016
The Licking County Water and Wastewater Department has been contacted by several residents in the Jacksontown area regarding little or no water service from shallow water wells, particularly less than 50 feet deep. The Licking County Water and Wastewater Department has reviewed and investigated the issue and does not believe that the recent Jacksontown sewer extension project is the cause.
The sewer extension project began construction over two years ago and has been completed for more than a year. Any impact on shallow wells due to the sewer project would have been immediately identified. Local well drilling companies report that shallow wells going dry in the 50 to 60 feet depth range is not a local occurrence.
It is the property owner’s responsibility to maintain individual private water wells. If a new water well needs drilled to provide an adequate water supply, then it is the property owner’s responsibility to ensure this is done in accordance with the applicable regulations. The Licking County Planning Department (LCPC) offers financial assistance to residents who need help restoring or re-drilling an adequate water well. To see if they qualify for financial assistance, residents may call LCPC at (740) 670-5200.
